Baz Luhrmann’s New Elvis Movie Hits Theaters Today
The movie about Elvis Presley’s life that Baz Luhrmann is making opens today. Fans of the famous musician might want to see this movie because Austin Butler plays him and Tom Hanks plays his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Even though the movie can get a little too fast-paced, it is still a fascinating look at a rough time in American history. Watch the last trailer for this big-budget musical drama below, and get ready to fall in love with it!
Baz Luhrmann
In Baz Luhrmann’s latest dazzling epic, Elvis Presley’s life is shown from his time as a soldier to his famous televised comeback concert in 1968. Austin Butler and Tom Hanks are in the movie, and Olivia DeJonge, who is from Australia and has just started acting, plays Priscilla Presley.
The new movie has been in the works for a long time. It was made by Luhrmann and his wife, Catherine Martin (The Great Gatsby). It is based on a screenplay by Luhrmann, Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner.
This is the director’s first big project since The Great Gatsby came out in 2013. He worked with Sam Bromell and Craig Pearce to write the script and is also the film’s executive producer.
In the movie, he plays Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’s manager. The character is interesting, but he is not the movie’s primary focus.
In the movie, there is a lot of talk about the relationship between Parker and Presley, but it becomes apparent once Parker starts using Presley to make money. Parker steered Elvis Presley’s career in a lousy direction by promoting unnatural acts with rhinestone jumpsuits and taking home half of his earnings.
The script by Luhrmann does a good job of telling the main parts of Elvis’s story, but it does so quickly. The story could have used more time in the movie, especially during the early Sun sessions and when he was called up for military service.
Still, the movie does an excellent job of showing Elvis’s most famous moments. Fans will see a lot of mushy songs and flashy performances in the movie. They will also see Elvis interacting with the public, upsetting some people and bringing in fans.
It’s a little strange to see a man who was such a huge musical star portrayed as a swindler and a carny, but that’s what Luhrmann does. But he does it well, showing us that the Presley we know differs from the honest Elvis.
The movie does a good job of showing how Elvis Presley’s family felt about his music and his sexual relationships. But the most exciting thing about the film, and I remember most, is how Luhrmann shows how much of a rebel Elvis was. He shows that he didn’t listen to his mother’s advice, ignored warnings not to put on sexually charged shows, and dabbled in politics because the deaths of Martin Luther King and other African American leaders made him angry.
Austin Butler
Many actors have tried acting like Elvis Presley in movies, but some have done it better. Kurt Russell in John Carpenter’s Elvis and Rob Youngblood in the made-for-TV Elvis and the Colonel are two examples, but no one has been as good as Austin Butler in Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis movie.
Butler beat out Miles Teller and Harry Styles for the part. He reportedly worked with a movement coach to copy Presley’s stage moves, kicks, karate chops, and other physical traits that helped him capture the king’s presence. He also mastered vocal inflections and small details that help Butler capture his seductive crooning voice, which sounds more like Elmer Fudd’s than Dracula’s.
It’s not easy to disappear into someone so well-known that everyone, including his uncle, thinks badly of him. This is a challenge that Luhrmann and Butler take on head-on, but the result is a compelling portrait of a normal person with the same worries as everyone else.
As Elvis, Butler is a sexy, confident performer who makes you feel like he’s just like us—sometimes a little bit crazy, but still with a heart. That’s why he makes a good Elvis Presley. Still, Butler keeps the audience interested with a sense of humour that goes beyond his character’s insecurities and into his relationship with Parker (Tom Hanks).
The movie also looks at the singer’s relationships with Black musicians and the traditions of their culture. Unlike most biopics, which tend to gloss over these kinds of things, this one shows how B.B. King and Little Richard, two musicians of colour, influenced Elvis’s style of music.
In flashbacks, Elvis’s formative years focus on his childhood and early career. During the 1950s and 1960s, his popularity and fame increased, making this an exciting time in his life. It was when social norms changed, and Elvis had to fight to stay true to his artistic vision while the world around him changed.
Tom Hanks
Priscilla Presley has talked about how excited she is for the new Elvis movie. She has praised director Baz Luhrmann’s vision and said she’s proud to be a part of it. The actress and singer also said she is excited to see the movie on June 24.
The biopic will show the famous singer’s rise to fame. Austin Butler will play Elvis Presley, and Tom Hanks will play his manager. It was written by Craig Pearce and directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!).
After a long search, Austin Butler got the part of the rock and roll legend. His roles in The Carrie Diaries and Switched at Birth had already impressed Luhrmann. He knows the legendary singer’s music well, so he was an excellent choice.
In the movie, Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’s manager, was played by Tom Hanks. He played a man who helped Elvis Presley build his career but also had a wrong side. He gambled and often went to Hot Springs, Arkansas, or Palm Springs, California, to do it.
People are most excited about the movie because of how Hanks plays Parker, but some need clarification. They don’t know how to play the character and are worried it might be too dark.
Even though some people were worried, Hanks’ performance has been praised by both fans and critics. He looks very different from how he looked in his other roles, and he speaks with a foreign accent.
The movie shows how Elvis Presley became famous and went over a lot of ground during his 42-year career. It is a complicated story, but it is also fun to read.
So, the movie is one of the most people look forward to seeing in 2023. It’s a big step in the legendary singer’s comeback, and fans will enjoy it.
But one thing about this movie worries some people: how it shows the relationship between Elvis Presley and his manager. The media and other sources have often twisted this relationship, so it’s hard to know how the movie will show it.
Olivia DeJonge
Olivia DeJonge is a rising star in Australia, quickly becoming one of the most well-known movie names. She is only 24 but has already been in a few short films and TV shows in Australia, like Hiding. She just played Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s movie about Elvis.
The movie is getting a lot of buzz. It tells the story of Elvis Presley’s life from the point of view of his mysterious manager, Parker (Tom Hanks). It has also topped the box office charts, giving audiences an A- CinemaScore and a 94% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Even though there’s a lot of talk about the movie, it could have been better. Even though the cast is excellent and Austin Butler gives a powerful performance, Baz Luhrmann was too busy telling too many stories. Because of this, the movie seems disjointed and way too long for its good.
Still, if you like Elvis or Austin Butler, you’ll probably want to check out this movie. The movie has a lot of great acting, but Austin Butler as Elvis steals the show.
If you’re a huge Elvis fan, you might be excited to hear that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll has praised the new Elvis movie. In an interview with PEOPLE, Elvis “Buck” Presley, the singer’s son, gave the film his stamp of approval and said it was one of the best he had ever seen.
In the same way, other people in the Presley family also gave it high marks. In the movie, Elvis’s mother, Gladys, is played by Helen Thomson, and his father, Vernon, is played by Richard Roxburgh. Luke Bracey plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays B.B. King, Xavier Samuel plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee plays Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
The soundtrack of the movie is another reason to see it. Both classic Elvis songs and new versions of his songs are on the soundtrack. RCA Records made the soundtrack, which is a must-have for fans of the singer.
